BPCA/CDCA Rep Teams

5 Feb 2016 by Glen Potter

Hello, All.

I’d like to start by congratulating the players (see below) selected to play in the forthcoming round of regional matches fixtured for Sunday, February 14. The BPCA (Bellarine) and CDCA (Colac) are putting out combined sides to play against combined GCA (1, 2 & 3) teams. These players have been selected to play in one of these representative matches There will be six matches, fixtured as follows:

•U17 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Western Oval, Geelong West (50 overs batting for each team)

•U16 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Burdoo Reserve, Grovedale (50 overs batting for each team)

•U15 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Grinter Reserve, Newcomb (45 overs batting for each team)

•U14 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Warrion Oval, Warrion (45 overs batting for each team)

•U13 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Winter Reserve, East Belmont (40 overs batting for each team)

•U12 – BPCA/CDCA v. GCA 1/2/3 at Eastern Reserve, Colac (40 overs batting for each team)

This round of matches has been coordinated as replacement for the recently-disbanded region matches against Western Waves (Horsham/Hamilton/Portland/Warrnambool). Rather than have a void in the rep cricket program, the region’s administrators felt this could be a fantastic opportunity for elite players to play representative cricket at a level above the inter-association matches held in November. All the selected players for these BPCA/CDCA teams, participated in, and were selected from, the rep series in November.

All matches are fixtured to be played on turf and, weather pending, this will remain the case. You ill be advised if there’s a change. Please check your emails regularly for any updates. Please note the following match-day information and requirements:

•Players are to wear their BPCA shirt and cap, with clean whites
•Suitable footwear for turf, such as spikes, are highly recommended but not compulsory. It is not expected that people will go out and buy spikes for a one-off match, but if you are able to borrow a pair then that would be wise. Normal cricket runners are okay but do not have the same traction as spikes (on turf wickets). All players bringing spikes must bring normal rubber-soled runners as well
•Players are to bring their own equipment and a drink bottle
•All players should have sunscreen applied
•There is a $10 fee required from every player to cover the cost of paying for umpires and match-balls. All money should be issued to the presiding coach on the day, or an appointed person, who’ll forward it on to the associations. I can alert you to this.
•As the BPCA are responsible for hosting two matches, and the CDCA two matches as well, there will be four matches where players are required to bring afternoon tea. The U17, U15, U14 and U12 teams are required to provide afternoon tea, which will amount to a small plate of food enough to feed 2 or 3 players. The U16 and U13 teams are effectively ‘visiting’ teams and the BPCA/CDCA players in those teams do not have to supply afternoon tea. Hope this makes sense. This is an edict from the Barwon regional cricket manager, not the BPCA
•Players should be at the ground by 9:15am for a 10:00am start. It is expected that the U13 and U12 matches would be finished around 3:30; the U15 and U14 matches around 4:00/4:30pm; and the U17 and U16 matches around 4:30/5:00pm
•The selectors of these six teams are CDCA president, Shane Vicary and myself. Both Shane and I have consulted our respective association coaches who oversaw the teams competing in the November round of inter-association matches. The coaches that provided input have had a large say in the selection of these teams. Shane and I also used our own understanding of the players. We identified players who we felt had the capability, or at the least the potential, to play at a higher level. We felt they deserved an opportunity to display their ability. Please note the following stipulations we put on the selected sides and what we are advising our coaches to facilitate:

1.Players identified as designated batsman have been selected to bat and, unless dismissed, will do so for the majority of the batting innings.
2.There are no retirements for batsmen, but coaches may use their discretion to retire a batsman if, a) the batsman is struggling to score or, b) a team has not lost many wickets, and the coach would like to give some batting time to other batsmen.
3.Players identified as designated bowlers have been selected to bowl and, unless extreme circumstances encourage a coach (or captain in the older age-groups) to rest a bowler, will do so for the majority of the bowling innings.
4.Bowlers have a maximum quota of overs they can bowl in an innings, and for a spell. The quota for each age-group is as follows: U17 & U16 – 10 overs/innings (maximum); 6 overs/spell (maximum). U15 & U14 – 8 overs/innings (maximum); 5 overs/spell (maximum). U13 & U12 – 6 overs/innings (maximum); 4 overs/spell (maximum).
5.Designated batsman might not bowl. Designated bowlers might not bat.
6.There are some players in each team that may well undertake a balance of batting and bowling duties, as they have been clearly identified as quality all-rounders. The quantity of all-rounders in each team is limited.
7.There are two designated wicket-keepers in each team who’ll share the keeping duties.
8.The coaches will aim to exercise the aforementioned approach, as instructed by the association rep coordinators. Please respect these volunteer coaches in their endeavour to carry out these instructions.

All of the following players are confirmed as available for this series. If you would like to confirm a player’s specific role in the team, feel free to email your question directly to me.
